Mrs. Carolyn Mackenna

Carolyn Mackenna passed away on August 7th at the age of 72 from breast cancer. Carolyn had a deep passion for flowers. She just couldn’t resist. Every year when the new catalogs would come out, she would state she wasn’t getting anymore because she had so many and it should be enough but the next time we saw her she would be excited to show us what she had picked out and how she couldn’t wait for them to be delivered. She found such joy in having her hands in the dirt tending to things and helping them to grow and be as brilliant and beautiful as they could possibly be. That was how she loved her children too. She tended to us and tried to help us be as brilliant and beautiful as we could be. Carolyn is survived by two children - her son Gerry and her daughter Christine . She also leaves behind four grandchildren Autum, Tyler, Kyle and Hannah, one great-grandchild, Brandon and a niece, Kathy. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchild and was so very proud of the people they have become. We talked at length about how it didn’t matter how much money they made or what title they had, it was about how good of a person they had grown up to be and they did not disappoint her. She spent many days helping to care for them when they were young and attended numerous concerts and other events. She was there for the birth of Hannah and said it was one of the most precious moments of her life. Carolyn loved her involvement in the Neighborhood Association. She spoke often about the wonderful people she met and how much it meant to her to try to make a difference in her little corner of the world. She also had a love for animals. We have no doubt her beloved dog Sadie was there to greet her in heaven and lead her to her family with her cat Lola trotting behind. She liked to think of herself as a mini female version of the Dog Whisperer and was free with her tips on how things should be done. A special thank you to her friends/neighbors Pete and Sherry/Sarah and Dave, you were such a blessing in her life. You were always there for her in every way, whether it was with friendship or a helping hand. She treasured your presence in her life. Another special thank you to the Unity Hospice group – Ashley her primary nurse who treated her with such love and dignity, Robin her CNA who brought a smile to her face with the tender care she provided and Linda who was there on the morning of her passing with such caring words. It’s so difficult to find the right words to describe someone. How do you put 72 years of living into a few paragraphs? It’s especially hard when it’s someone you love so much. Most of us don’t have the opportunity to impact a great number of lives but all of us have the chance to have a great impact on the few lives we touch. Her presence in our lives will transcend time and be a part of how we live our lives every day. She was so strong in the face of such a ferocious disease and was able to find a smile through it all. Mom, you are deeply loved and will be dearly missed. We know you will be with us every day until we see you again.
