Neil Johnson

Neil T. Johnson, 68, De Pere, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Jack and Engrid Meng Residence on the Unity Hospice Campus in Ledgeview. Neil was born on November 19, 1941 in Green Bay the son of Bernice M. Johnson. He attended St. Philip Grade School and was a graduate of Green Bay Preble High School. Neil served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. He was employed at O & E Machine Company for over 40 years until his retirement. Neil had a love of automobiles through the years but was especially fond of his Delorean “Heath Cliff” and was an avid model car collector and was proud to show his collection to the many visitors to his home. He was also a long time member of the Nifty Fifty Car club and enjoyed going to auto shows. Neil was fascinated with aviation and greatly enjoyed countless hours going to the EAA Museum and even donated items to the children’s display and was thanked with a commemorative jacket, which he proudly wore. His passion for gas powered engines also included boats and snowmobiles. Neil had a prized collection of over 70 watches and also found the time to collect unique wall clocks. He loved life and had an energy about him that people gravitated to and always gave to others especially those in need. Neil truly was a gentleman and his memory and spirit will always embrace those who knew him. Neil is survived by his loving sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Russ Gould, his niece Cheryl (Mike) Bjorklund, nephew Kevin (Melinda) Mommaerts, his grand nieces and nephews Alison, Courtney, Jordyn, Megann, McKensie, Andy and Zach; all of Green Bay. He is further survived by other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Bernice M. Johnson and his grandparents Seraph and Clemence (Bertrand) DeBauche. Gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at The Old St. Joseph Church on the Campus of St. Norbert College. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5:00 P.M. with Rev. James Baraniak, O. Praem., as celebrant. Burial at Fort Howard Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a Memorial Fund has been established in his name. The family would like to offer a warm note of appreciation to the staffs of Unity Hospice for all of their wonderful care and love shown to Neil. Also, a special thank-you the wonderful people at Nicolet Highlands Apartments for their wonderful friendship and concern for Neil.
