Mary Jo Gellin

Mary Jo Gellin graced us with her presence on earth from April 10,1940 until June 11,2026. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, friend, wife and most importantly mom and grandma. Someone once asked how to describe Mary Jo and there is no one word to describe her. She encapsulated everything from kind, compassionate, caring, loving, empathetic, giving and everything in between. She loved life and loved her family . Her greatest joy was being a mom to her seven children: Patty (Tom) Zeitler, Cindy (Jim) Laes, Sue (Curt) Hansen, Karen (Charlie) Alberts, Lisa (Roy) Clark, son-in-law Terry (Amanda) Clark, Tom (Barb) Gellin. Unfortunately, she was faced with burying two of her loved ones during her lifetime. The first was her beloved husband, Dick and the second, a mothers worst nightmare, was her daughter Cheri Clark. Mary Jo demonstrated an amount of strength that most will never know, as she kept her family together through both of these tragedies. As her children grew she became the happiest surrounded by her 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. On any given day you would see her staying up all night reading a book cover to cover, or building a puzzle with anyone who wanted to join her, basking in the sun as she tended to her flowers. Her love for community was witnessed throughout her neighborhood as everyone called her grandma, a term of endearment as to who she really was. Mary Jo was filled with quick wit and an amazing amount of knowledge. She was always willing to lend a listening ear and offer advice that was deeper than anyone could imagine. If you knew Mary Jo, you were blessed to be welcomed into her family and inner circle. Mary Jo loved hard, loved deep and loved everyone with expecting nothing in return. A few thank you’s need to be extended from the family. Those include: Unity Hospice, especially Aleesha RN and Jane, Social Worker, for their guidance and support. ADRC, especially Debbie and Ginny, for their companionship during the classes Mary Jo attended.. Her Daughter-in-law Barb who took care of her on a daily basis with unwavering compassion and strength. Her grand-daughter Raeleigh who took care of her on the weekends and nights with resilience and love. Finally, Hansen Funeral Home for their time, patience and empathy. Mary Jo would like to leave you with one final piece of advice: “please do not shed tears for me as I am gone, but laugh and find joy that you were part of my life to begin with”. Please join the family as they lay Mary Jo to rest at Hamlet Creek 3562 Finger Road Green Bay on Wednesday June 17,2026 from 2-4 with service to begin at 4pm. . Entombment will conclude at Allouez Catholic Cemetery on Thursday June 18, 2026 10 AM . In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be donated to Dorothy Rosenberg Food Pantry here in Green Bay where Mary Jo volunteered; serving the less fortunate in her neighborhood.
