Mrs. Gay R. Vanden Avond

Gay R. Vanden Avond, 84, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Friday, October 6, 2023. Gay was born on January 8, 1939, in Green Bay, the daughter of the now late Art and Helen (Offerman) Nuthals. Gay was a graduate of Green Bay West High School with the class of 1957. On October 17, 1959 she married Larry “Ozzie” Vanden Avond at Annunciation Catholic Church and together they built a beautiful life and raised 5 wonderful kids. There are not enough words nor space to describe all of Gay’s loves, interests, hobbies and endeavors. But to start- family was the most important thing to her and she was her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader and you cannot mention her without mentioning Ozzie as they were always together. Gay loved the holidays and the many get togethers through the years and cherished the times and the memories that were made. She loved to travel and was always up for an adventure and going to new places. Gay loved camping at Peninsula with her family and good friends the Hardy’s and always looked forward to her nighttime walks to the lighthouse, going to the beach and just sitting around the campfire. She absolutely loved decorating for the different seasons of the year, holidays or just a whim to change things~ in her words “it was never too late to decorate.” Gay had a competitive side when it came to playing cards but always made it fun even while telling you how to play. She liked her daily cribbage games with Ozzie, her sheepshead games with the ladies and her Tuesday coffee clutch. Gay liked her flower beds and enjoyed the fruits of Ozzie’s hard work as they began to bloom. Gay was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, a friend to many and will always be lovingly remembered and sorrowfully missed~ Go rest high on that Mountain, your work here on earth is done! Gay is survived by her loving husband” Ozzie”, her children: Aaron and Anne, Alan and Mike, Bob and Shawn, Becky, Andrea and Pat, 10 grandchildren: David (Heidi), Rory (Amber), Mark (Brooke), Stacy (Billy), Sidney (Louis), Jacob, Michael (McKenzie), Noah (Kaylee), Maddy (Peter), Nick (Maria), 12 great-grandchildren: Rudy, Austin, Skyla, Finn, Zoey, Ozzie, Eliza, Hank, Vicki, Reagen, Meredith, Scarlett, Her siblings: Janice, Ellen (Dick), Lee (Pat), Art (Peggy), Joni, her in-laws: Sr. Mercita, Ron (Marlene), Barb, Mike (Joni). She is further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Wendy, Mark, her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Clem and Leona, an in-law: Chico. Gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at St. Philip the Apostle Parish 312 Victoria Street. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue after 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at the church. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 P.M. (Noon). The family would like to offer a warm note of appreciation to the staff of Unity Hospice especially, Jolene and Bobbie Jo for all of their loving care and compassion~ your kindness will never be forgotten.
