Mr. David L. Slattebo

David Louis Slattebo was born in Los Angelos, California on March 22, 1948. He and his brother were avid sailors, sailing up and down the Pacific Coast in all types of sailboats. After High School he joined R.O.T.C.at the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he met and married Karen Jennings from Baltimore MD on August 7, 1971. We celebrated 52 years of wedded bliss. We spent three wonderful years in Germany, traveling throughout Europe while he ran the Post Motor Pool. He went to Officer Training Class at Ft. Belvoir and then took command time at Ft. Hood, where he served under General Patton Jr. In 1977 he was hired as a manager by Proctor and Gamble in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He took flying lessons and got his Pilot License there. We adopted two children. David transferred to Cheboygan, Ml. where we adopted two more children. He traveled to Cincinnati to work on the engineering problem of putting crips in the legs of pamper diapers. He transferred to Green Bay and worked in the Computer Technical department. He never missed going to EAA with his son Michael and grandsons Caleb and Mitchell. He retired at fifty-eight to go on to more varied pursuits. He traveled all over the United States in his camper with Caleb, Mitchell, Karen and all their pets. He truly enjoyed cooking and decided to attend Culinary School in Appleton Fox Valley and graduated as a Chef. He made the best renown breads and desserts. He had a real flare and talent for preparing meals. He bought a 1931 Ford Model A car. It came as a kit where he built the car from bottom up using all original pieces and upholstery. David loved to sew and was an excellent engineer. He was very proud to be a member of Nickle A Region Wisconsin Model A Restorers Club. He loved taking their tours, going to meets and helping at IOLA meetings. He enjoyed meeting with the members and helping wherever he could. Doug Grant introduced him to the Polar Express show at the Train Museum. David fell in love with trains. He became a conductor and would give informative tours to the many guests while they rode on the trains. David loved life and devoted himself to the service of those he loved. He believed in the gospel of the Latter Day Saints, he loved his family and friends, bringing everyone under his umbrella of friendship and care. He died while in Unity Hospice care at his home early Thursday May 91\ 2024. He is survived by his wife Karen, his daughter Elizabeth with her sons Caleb and Mitchell, his son Nick, his son Connor (wife Jesse) and daughter Skylar. His sister Wendy and her daughter Alisa and granddaughter Margaret, his brother John (wife Irene) and sons Peter and David, His cousin Kent Jakobsen He is preceded in death by his son Michael, brother Peter and parents Oscar and Margaret Slattebo. Gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the National Railroad Museum, 2285 S. Broadway. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M.
