September 9, 1920 - February 24, 2011
Marynelle Nadeau died at the age of 90 in Madison, WI on Thursday, February 24, 2011. Marynelle lived a full life. She was bright, sociable, loved sports and volunteering, and was a devout Catholic. She grew up in Defiance, Ohio and was the youngest of six children born to Roger and Gertrude Daoust. She excelled both in school and in sports. As a cheerleader, she once outraced her brother Fred to the goal line when he was running for a touchdown. She attended Northwestern University where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa in her junior year. She met her husband, George, who was at Northwestern as a medical student. They married on September 18, 1943. The couple then moved to Green Bay in 1949, where George joined his father, Emile, in medical practice as an eye, ear, nose and throat specialist. Marynelle recently said that the best thing that ever happened to her was meeting George. Marynelle was active as a swim team volunteer chauffeuring swimmers around the state and to out-of-state meets. She went on to become the first woman to sit on the board of directors of the Green Bay Y. Golf was one of Marynelle's passions. (Others included the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle, the Green Bay Packers, chocolate, bridge and virtually any other card game imaginable.) She won numerous trophies at the Oneida Golf Club and hit three holes in one during her more than 60 years of being active in the sport. She was also the first woman to serve on the board of directors of Oneida. When the children left home, Marynelle and George began to split their time between Green Bay and Port St. Lucie, FL, and had numerous friendships in both places. Even after George died in 1997, Marynelle continued to commute between Wisconsin and Florida until 2003. Her volunteer work continued into her early 80s, delivering for Meals on Wheels and assisting people to fill out their income tax forms. Marynelle is survived by 4 children -- Cecile (Cece), Emile (E.G.), Denise (Dennie) and Camille (Cammie), by seven grandchildren (Luc, Isaac, Bradie, Emma, Sarah, Dalton, and Bailey), and by five great-grandchildren (Maia, Alex, Madeleine, Remy, and Rylan), all of whom she loved very much. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at Resurrection Catholic Church 333 Hilltop Drive on Saturday, March 5, 2011. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 10:30 A.M. Online condolences may expressed at www.hansenfuneralservice.com. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Green Bay Meals on Wheels ~ HospiceCare Inc, Madison~ The Alzheimer’s Association~ or the charity of your choosing.
