Mr Joseph "Joe" Dorschel

February 21, 1924 - June 23, 2015

Joseph C. Dorschel, 91, a lifelong Green Bay area resident, died at home on June 23, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born February 21, 1924 in Green Bay to the late Joseph D. and Christine (Schumacher) Dorschel. He graduated from East High in 1941. He then attended Marquette University until World War Two interrupted his studies. He joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Signalman in the North and South Atlantic, the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and the Caribbean Sea. He was extremely proud to have served his country during wartime. After the war, he returned to Marquette University and earned his Bachelor of Philosophy degree, then graduated from the Marquette Law School in 1949. He returned to Green Bay and spent his entire working life here. In addition to practicing law, he sold law books, life insurance and even snowmobiles-which he thoroughly enjoyed! Eventually, he returned to the practice of law, and at the time of his retirement in 1988 he was associated with the Kaftan Law Firm. On April 11, 1953, he married Mary Eugenia (Jeanne) Hall, his college sweetheart. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage until her death in 2007. Joe is survived by two sons, Greg Dorschel (Katie Brock), Nashville, TN and Ret. Col. Matt Dorschel (Joann), Moscow, ID; four daughters, Ann Dorschel (Dawn Griffin), Madison, WI, Kate Quirk, Minneapolis, MN, Connie Ludy, Wichita, KS and Tina Dorschel (Andrea Wipperfurth), Madison, WI; 15 Grandchildren, Jake, Ben and Matt Dorschel; Joe (Amber), Brian, Lucas and Michael Dorschel; Cody and Elliot Cox; Emily and Neal Sonneman; Grace and Jay Dorschel; Max and Zoe Goldstein; 1 Great Grandchild, Matthew James Dorschel. He is further survived by brothers-in-law, Jack (Marilyn) Mackin, Green Bay and Lawrence H. Hall, Mystic, CT; and many caring nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant sons, Louis and Dudley; adult son, Joseph L. “Jay”; sisters Ann Renard, Marion “Marnie” Mackin, Edith “Edie” Grognet, brothers-in-law Jack Renard, Clarence “Grog” Grognet and sister-in-law Mary Hall. Gathering for family and friends will be held Sun., June 28 from 4 to 7 pm at St. Matthew Parish, 130 St. Matthew St., Green Bay. Visitation will continue at 10 am Mon., June 29 until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Matthew Parish, with Fr. Phillip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Interment at Allouez Catholic Cemetery. A Memorial Fund has been established at the Brown County Library.
