George M. Johnson Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

George M. Johnson Sr,57, Green Bay passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011after a courageous battle with cancer. George was born on December 5, 1953 in Highland Park, Illinois the son of the now late Harold and Josephine (Polimeni) Johnson. On February 14, 1975 he married the former Eileen McIntosh in Waukegan, Ill and they just celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. George was employed for 13 years at Lake Forest Hospital in both the Janitorial and Purchasing Depts. Until his illness he and his wife were the building caretakers for the Monroe Plaza Apartments. George was on Monroe Plaza’s Bingo Committee and enjoyed his volunteers work as a Bingo Caller as well as playing Bingo and was very active in the Meal Site program. George was a long time member of the Waukegan Council #731 Knights of Columbus and was proud of the fact that he was one of the youngest 4th degree members. George was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He will be remembered for his love of family, great sense of humor and his generosity for those that needed his help. Survivors include his wife Eileen, three children Kathleen Johnson, Green Bay, George (Andrea) Johnson, Jr,. Pensaukee; David Johnson, Oconto, 5 grandchildren Katrina, Alanna, Madeline, Allison and Jospehine, 2 sisters Deborah Carmody, Penny Hoyt, 1 brother Robert Johnson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by 1 brother Terry. Gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral 140 S. Monroe Avenue. A Prayer Service will be held at 5:00 P.M. with Rev. John W. Girotti officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. A special thank-you to all our friends at Monroe Plaza, Unity Hospice especially Ted, Dr. Saphner and the Green Bay Oncology Staff and to Mike and Ken for all of the excellent care you have given George.
