Mrs. Enid Eckstein Smeall

February 2, 1934 - August 25, 2016

Enid Eckstein Smeall, 82, Green Bay passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at her home. Enid was born on February 2, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Sydney and Sylvia (Alexander) Eckstein. She obtained her B.A. degree in Education from the Richmond Professional Institute. Enid then furthered her education with a Masters Degree in Education from the University of North Dakota. On April 30, 1957 she married Joseph F. S. Smeall and the couple enjoyed over 30 years together. Joseph preceded her in death on April 25, 1987. Education was a passion for her and she never missed a chance to teach and greatly enjoyed the opportunity to travel while pursuing her love of education. Enid taught for the Grand Forks Public School system for over 30 years and during her time teaching it took her to many places. She spent a year as a Librarian at the Colegio Nido de Aguilas School in Santiago Chile. Enid taught in the Public School system in Gosport, Hampshire England as part of the Fullbright Exchange Program. Enid was employed in the Education Department as a Supervisor for Student Teachers at the University of North Dakota. After retirement she moved to Cochabamba, Bolivia, and taught at the Calvert Cooperative School as well as being the Principal for one year. Enid then moved to Green Bay to be closer to her family and volunteered at Aldo Leopold Community School reading story books to classes. She had a full life. Among some of her joys, were her family, reading books, traveling and being an excellent cook. Enid is survived by her children Benjamin Francis Smeall, Risë Allison (Martha) Mezo, Nicholas Alexander (Larilee) Smeall and Christopher (Ann) Smeall, 3 grandchildren Joseph Germán, Arthur Gabriel and Jonah. 1 brother and sister-in-law Michael (Ellen) Eckstein. She is further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law Iris (Gerald) Eckstein Kerpelman. A Graveside Service will be held with Rabbi Shaina Bacharach at 11:00A.M. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at C’nesses Israel Cemetery, 1350 Military Avenue. The family would like to offer a warm note of appreciation to her caregivers Maritza Álvarez and Brenda Pérez for all of their loving care and compassion. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Villwock and his staff for their kindness. A Heart felt thank you to Rabbi Shaini Bacharach for befriending mom and helping her along her faith journey in life.
