Dorothy Kitchen

Dorothy Kitchen, 89, Green Bay passed away on December 27, 2008. Dorothy’s life began in Great Britain, where she grew up, married a service man and came to the United States as a “war bride” and became a citizen. Dorothy lived in Madison, Wisconsin for most of her life. She was always a part of the “Overseas Group” who met to share the camaraderie of those who married and came to the U.S. Dorothy received awards for the many hours she contributed volunteering at the Veterans hospital. Dorothy’s church was a mainstay during her life. Teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and serving on committees throughout her years. All through these activities and raising two children she enjoyed working at the UW Extension, Pharmacy Department until she retired. In all of theses activities she gained wonderful friends who have been so important in her life. Dorothy is survived by a sister and brother-in-law Beryl & Geoffrey Breed, Gillingham, Kent, Great Britain, daughter Beryl Van Dyck, De Pere, WI; a son Kenneth Kitchen, five grandchildren Ian, Gillean, Tye, Krysta, Paul and two great-grandchildren Renee and Jarod. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and brother-in-law In accordance with Dorothy’s wishes, the family held a private service of her life on January 11, 2009. Dorothy rests at Fort Howard Memorial Park. We wish to send a deep and special thank-you to everyone at McCormick Memorial Home for having Mom as part of their family and for keeping her safe and secure and yet independent as much as she wished. Thank-you for your love and gentle teasing so she knew this was home.
