Bette Kriwanek

May 16, 1924 - December 21, 2010

Bette J. (Koss) Kriwanek, Allouez, passed away December 21, 2010. She was born May 16, 1924 in Casco, daughter of the late Joseph J. and Anna (Sticka) Koss. She graduated from Casco High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from UW-Madison. Bette taught Home Economics in High Schools at Casco, Valders and Denmark and at Northeast Wisconsin Technical Institute. She married Russel L. Kriwanek in 1948 on August 5th. Bette was the first woman president of the Green Bay Curling Club and served two terms. She was president of the Badger Women’s Curling Association and in 1976 was chosen one of twenty women to represent the United States on a curling tour of Scotland. She was a Foods Judge at Brown County Fairs and served on the Board of Directors for Friends of Channel 38 and Catholic Woman’s Club. Bette was secretary of the Allouez Beautification Committee, a member of Green Bay Area Home Economics Association, Theta Phi Alpha and Wisconsin Czechs. She served a volunteer at Heritage Hill, St. Matthew Church, Mobile Meals, Paul’s Pantry, and Habitat for Humanity. She is survived by her husband, Russel Kriwanek , two sons, Jeff Kriwanek Green Bay, Fred Kriwanek Downers Grove, Illinois, one daughter Tracy (Will) Hoppe Pineville, Louisiana and three grandchildren Corrine Kriwanek , Nicole Kriwanek and Kristopher Sandmann. She is also survived by nieces and nephews and sisters and brother-in-law; Ethel Koss Casco, Marilyn and Lee Tikalsky New Holstein, and Lori Kriwanek Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Bette was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Koss, sisters and brother-in-laws Harriet (Al) Sears, Isobel (Art) McCalvy, Magdaline (Robert) Dhuey, Edna (David) Doperalski and Robert (Penny) Kriwanek. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, December 28th at St. Matthew Church in Allouez, at 11:00 A.M. with Father Larry Seidl officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Denmark., WI. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Unity Hospice, at Unity Limited Partnership, 2366 Oak Ridge Circle, De Pere, WI 54115
