Thomas Ward

Thomas R. Ward, 84, Crandon, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013 surrounded by his family. Tom was born on June 23, 1929 in Madison Wisconsin, the son of the now late Glen and Estelle (O’Connor) Ward. He was a graduate of Madison West High School with the class of 1948. Tom furthered his education at U.W. Madison with a B.S. degree in PE and a minor in Science. He then served his Country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge. On December 31, 1955 he married the love of his life Helen Bollinger. Tom and Helen then started their family in Illinois raising 5 wonderful children. Tom taught as a Physical Education Coach on both the High School and Elementary level his whole life. He found great pleasure in being able to mentor, coach and make a difference in children’s lives. Tom and Helen founded Camp Timberlane in 1962 in Crandon, where they brought in special needs boys to teach them how to grow into young men. After 40 years of creating a memorable experience for all of the young attendee’s, Tom and Helen closed the camp to enjoy their retirement. Thomas is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen, his children Susan (Jeffrey) Marvin; Roberts; Peggy (Mike) Plummer, Great Falls, Mt; Josephine “Josie” Kolzow, Montgomery, Ill; John Ward, Green Bay; Robert “Bob” Ward, North Aurora, Ill; 6 grandchildren, Evan Marvin, Glenn (Meghan) Marvin, Kristy (Jason) Te Slaa; Bejamin Plummer, Krystal (James) Madai, Shannon Kolzow, 4 great-grandchildren, Weston, Logan, Devin and Ethan Te Slaa, two brothers and two sisters-in-law James (Delores) Ward, Patrick (Joni) Ward, (You Can List Mrs. Wards siblings here- “in-laws”). He is further survived by many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by (You Can List Mrs. Wards siblings here- “in-laws”) Gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on, Saturday, December 21, 2013. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy A Memorial Fund has been established in his name.
