Mrs. Tamara "Tammy" J. Basten

Tamara Jean (Ellis) Basten was born in Plymouth, Wisconsin in May, 1955. She met her future husband, Al, on a blind date and married him in Green Bay in June, 1977. For over 25 years, she and Al lived in Madison before moving back to Green Bay to be closer to family. After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, she died on March 9, 2023 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Many who knew Tammy know that she was one of the hardest working and selfless people. She earned an associate’s degree in accounting at NWTC and throughout her career, she diligently served numerous clients, eventually taking over the accounting work for the family business. She touched so many people throughout her life, and cared for each person individually, always asking what she could do for them. Traveling throughout the United States was one of Tammy’s goals and she successfully visited 48 states with Al throughout their marriage, missing only Utah and Wyoming. She also enjoyed knitting (“yarning” as Al liked to jest with her), gifting generously, and decorating her home with her ever-growing collection of mice! Tammy was solidly grounded in her faith and love of Jesus. She had so much love and wisdom that she gave freely, and a great sense of humor while making everyone around her feel special and worthy. She enjoyed finding inspirational quotes that helped to center her thoughts and focus her intentions in life. She always reminded us that there is a greater plan, even if we do not understand it, and to always live our lives to the fullest today. Family was the center of Tammy’s life, whether they were near or far, biological or not. Tammy was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Carol Ellis. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Al Basten; 3 young men they considered as sons, Todd (Amy) Fischer, Craig (Marsha) Heuer, Richard (Leslie) Marks; siblings Gwenn (David) Tremble and David (Becky) Ellis; siblings-in-law Janice (Ronald) Cavil and Roxanne (Richard) Vincent; Many nieces , nephews, great nieces, and grand-children that had the good fortune of receiving Tammy’s love, care and being held in her cuddly arms; A host of great friends that were family; and many loved Pals and foster sons. Please join us as we celebrate Tammy’s life on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Celebration Church, 3475 Humboldt Road in Green Bay. Visitation will begin at 9:00am, with a celebration of life service at 11:00am. Tammy will be buried at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton. For those of you who knew and loved Tammy, she had too many allergies to enjoy flowers, so in lieu of flowers, all donations will go towards the Give-A-Kid-A-Book Green Bay Program in Tammy’s name as she believed in “giving back” and loved reading and playing with children. A special “Thank You” to the Bellin Staff for all of your care and loving support.
