Mrs. Sara A. Manthey-Wanek

Sara Ann Manthey-Wanek, 71, of Allouez, took her first breath in heaven, Wednesday evening January 22, 2025. She was born July 8, 1953 at Bellin Hospital Green Bay. Sara graduated from UW-Eau Claire, Bachelors Social Work, and UW Milwaukee, Master of Social Work. Throughout her life Sara would be there for family, friends, and colleagues, as a loving caring confidant. In her career Sara dedicated herself to helping others; from taking care of, and protecting children in foster care; adults with special needs; and individuals and families needing counseling, guidance and support in difficult times. She comforted individuals and families as they approached the end of their life in hospice care. Sara was there to guide everyone through difficulties with compassion. Sara was passionate about music her entire life. In 1981, Sara was a founding member of the original Allouez Village Band, now the AVB Community band, which was started by her former band teacher, Robert Seering. Sara played the Piano since the age of 6 and French Horn since Junior high and was a band member for 42 years. Sara’s life was filled with exciting experiences and long-lasting friendships. She traveled, loved pets, enjoyed gardening and sailing. She sailed with friends on a 35-foot sailboat on Lake Michigan. Family and friendships were very important to her. Sara had friends all over the country and enjoyed talking and visiting with them regularly. To the family she was known as Mom, Nana, friend and supporter. Sara is survived by her husband Larry Wanek, her children/step-children Jessica (Don) Wachal, Jacque (Brad) Georgia, Jennifer Wanek, and Larry (Kandi) Plinske, her brother Charles (Chip) Manthey, her dog Aspen, and many family, friends and companions. Sara was preceded in death by her parents Leona and Robert Manthey, and her aunt Dorothy Brown, and several beloved pets. We know that she is at peace, playing her horn, catching up with family, and going on walks with her pets. Sara will be missed by all of us; she will be remembered as a very Special Lady. A Celebration of Life will be held at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 991 Pilgrim Way, Green Bay on Saturday April 5th, with visitation starting at noon and continuing after the 1:00 pm ceremony.
