Joemma Mood

Joemma L. Mood, nee Hooten, 79, of Green Bay, Wisc, born November 12, 1931, went to be with her heavenly Father on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, while in her home with her family at her bedside. Jo was blessed with many beautiful qualities, a kind manner, a caring, compassionate heart and a loving spirit that bound her with everyone she met. She also had a tenacious fighting spirit to live life to the fullest even after being diagnosed in 1998 with COPD. She overcame every obstacle that was set before her even down to her final breath. She and her husband, Jim, raised two children. She was blessed with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, whom she loved very much. Jo was an accomplished artist having used her talents for most of her life. She had her own business in the 70's called the Apple Barrel Studio in Rapid River, Mich., where she sold many of her pieces of art as well as spent five years teaching Rosmaling at the William Bonifas Art Center in Escanaba, Mich. After moving to Green Bay, during the 80's and 90's she spent time working for Gus Emmel's Bakery making and decorating cakes and then spent ten years working at Fox River Mall for the Wood Factory where she custom painted wood furniture. She was a long standing friend of Bill W. for over 30 years and a weekly speaker at Libertas Treatment Center for teens dealing with addictions for 15 years. After retiring, Jo became a weekly chat room moderator for online COPD-Support, Inc. for 13 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore G. and Maybelle E. Hooten, nee Elliott, of Belleville, Mich. and Pompano Beach, Fla. Surviving are her husband, James Mood of Green Bay, Wisc.; two children, Linda L. Grimmer and her husband Clarence of Kaukauna, Wisc., Robert Donald Mood and his wife Lisa Venus of Windsor, Ont., Canada; brother, Theodore E. Hooten of Ann Arbor, Mich.; grandchildren, Andrea Stephens and her husband Ken of Belleville, Ill.; James L. Shomin and his wife Melissa of Kaukauna, Wisc.; Jason Mood and his sister, Melissa Mood, both of Windsor, Ont., Canada; Kelsey Grimmer of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Joel Grimmer of Florence, Wisc.; great-grandchildren, Samuel Stephens, Isabella Shomin, Kaeleigh, Kassandra, Kameron and Kelci Mood; and countless friends from around the world whose lives were touched by hers. We would like to thank Unity Hospice with special mention to Nurse Miriah and Dr. Amanda Sommerfeldt as well as the entire Unity staff for their amazing service to our family.
