Doris M. Huebner

Doris M. Huebner, 91, Green Bay passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Woodside Lutheran Nursing Home. Doris was born on April 25, 1922 in Green Bay the daughter of the now late Henry and Gladys (Williams) Wage. She was a graduate of Manitowoc High School and furthered her education at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. On December 19, 1945 she married Karl E. Huebner in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The couple cared for each other and shared almost 63 years together. Karl preceded her in death on March 31, 2008. Doris’ intellectual pursuits included closely following current events and she was always ready for a conversation about what was happening in the world. She loved books and subscribed to many publications across a wide range of interests. She was very outgoing and greatly enjoyed striking up conversations with strangers who soon became acquaintances. Doris had a generous spirit and was always willing to give to assist others. She had great interest in and respect for the Menominee Indian Culture and was very involved in supporting it. When she and Karl lived in Illinois, Doris worked as a writer for the Kankakee Daily Journal. In later years in Green Bay, she was employed at the Press Gazette where she shared her expertise, time and professionalism. Of all her accomplishments in life, Doris’ greatest joy was being a proud Mom and being there for her husband, children, other family and friends. In her later years, she found a sense of peace in deepening her faith through heartfelt conversations exploring spirituality with her dear friend, Joan. Doris is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law Kurt and Susan Huebner, Mukwonago; Frederick Huebner, Willowbrook, Ill; William Huebner, CA; one daughter and son-in-law Christy and Rocco Caridi, Rhinebeck, NY; three grandchildren, Jurgen Huebner, Gabriella (Daniel) Broady; Alexandra (Chris) Henrichs; five great-grandchildren Brendan, Samuel, Logan, Sullivan, and Lillian. She is further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Lois Penn, Leah and Lester Brackob, and Emil and Lorraine Huebner. Gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Christ Community Lutheran Church ELCA 1742 Servant Way. A Service of Remembrance to celebrate Doris’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. The family would like to offer a warm note of appreciation to Dr. Malena Dzwonkowski and her staff for all of the loving attention and compassion shown to Doris. Also a special thank-you to the staffs of Woodside Lutheran Home for their care and concern.
