Mr. Donald Conard

Donald J. Conard, 81, Green Bay, died peacefully and surrounded by his family on October 13, 2015, following a brief illness. He was born in Sugar Bush, Wisconsin, on May 29, 1934, to John and Sylvia (Borley) Conard. Don graduated from Luxemburg High School and attended Marquette University before serving his country in the army. On June 9, 1955, he married Nancy Seidl, beginning 60 years of mutual love and care. (“60 years, and it’s still not enough.”) During his service in the military he was stationed in Newfoundland, Canada, where his first child, Mary, was born and where he and Nancy made lifelong, loyal friends. After the army, Don was a truck driver for Standard Oil before he and Nancy opened up their business, Conard Plumbing, Heating and Electrical, LLC, in Lark, Wisconsin in 1963. Don and Nancy ran the business together until their retirement in 2001. Ever the volunteer, Don was a CCD instructor, Wayside volunteer firefighter and, just less than a year ago, ended his 14 years of volunteer service at Bellin Health in transport and cardiac care. Don was an accomplished bowler, with a high game of 279. He and Nancy went on many trips together and loved their time with family at their cottage on Long Lake. Don could fix just about anything, even cars and furnaces over the phone. Don will be remembered most for his constant and unwavering support of his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four children, Mary (Donald) Swanson, Cheryl (Gil) Haight, Jerry (Jean Skornicka) Conard, Kevin (Cheryl) Conard; seven grandchildren, Lynn Sheka, Adam Sheka, Katherine Sheka, Emily Swanson, Heidi Swanson, Lauren Haight, Natalie Haight; brother, Father Raymond Conard; sisters-in-law ,Natalie Montie and Rita Conard, brothers-in-law, John Stephan and Peter Arendt; nieces, nephews and cousins. Don was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Richard and Elvira Seidl; brother, Maurice Conard; sisters, Verna Schott and Marian Stephan; special uncle John Borley; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Friends may call at St. Bernard Church, Green Bay, on Saturday, October 17, with visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Bob Rank, along with Deacon Robert Miller, presiding.
